There are a few reasons it’s taken me so long to post some favorites from Robert & I’s engagement session at Great Marsh Estate. The biggest one was that until my sister started sharing photos of her new twin boys (!!!), I couldn’t really reveal the WHOLE story of how our session went down! But I’ll get to that!
The other reason was that my friend Heather is so ridiculously talented that choosing favorites was almost impossible. The first time I went through and tried to just QUICKLY, fully gut instinct, first impression pick favorites, I picked about half of them. Then I designed our engagement album and had to narrow down even more, so I’m more ready to kill my darlings now and not share all 200+ photos. 🙂
And that’s a true testament to Heather’s skill AND Sparkle’s skill in doing my makeup because I normally do NOT like photos of myself. Thank you, thank you a million times to Heather & Sparkle for making me feel like a million bucks. I could cry.
SO! The fun story behind our engagement session day! I was doing my makeup with Sparkle at the Mill and running a littleeee late. (Heather & I wanted to get there early because we knew we would need about 30 minutes to squeal and be excited and catch up!) As Robert & I are rushing to my car, I got a text from Shanna that said something like, “I don’t want you to worry during your photos, but I’m on the way to get induced.” I called her on the way and she seemed fairly calm. Obviously nervous, but mostly ready to get the boys out safely and meet them!
I was definitely nervous for her during our session. Having twins is not easy or super common, so I had a lot on my mind! But Shanna was induced with Colton (my oldest nephew), and she did so well. I had a feeling that things would go just as smoothly, and I knew she was in good hands. But of course, I prayed all the way to Bealton.
I’ll always remember that my nephews number 2 & 3 were born in the wee hours right after my dream-come-true engagement session! And I got to meet them the very next evening! I think it made our session that much more exciting to know that they were on their way into the world. 🙂
Now, on to the photos! Picking Great Marsh Estate was a no brainer — I’ve been obsessed with them since they first started their Instagram! I think it’s just the most beautiful house, and y’all know I love getting to check out beautiful houses! Plus, the property isn’t too shabby either. 😉
I think this photo above is Robert & I’s favorite! Or at least one of them.
I kept telling Sparkle how BADASS lashes make me feel. Guys, lashes will change you. haha
You know how people were all like, “Get you a man that makes you look at him the way Meghan Markle looks at Harry.” Well, I don’t think she has anything on how I look at Robert. 😉
I got lots ‘o messages about this skirt when we first posted a few photos! You guys know if you follow me on this blog or on Insta how much I STRUGGLED picking outfits. I felt SO much pressure, especially because Robert & I never get nice photos together. So. On Tuesday (our session was on Thursday lol), Robert and I went to the mall to find a shirt for him. He kept asking what color we were looking for. I was like, “I don’t KNOW because I don’t love this dress!”
I had bought a dress from Altar’d State that I didn’t love, but I was running out of time. After I bought it, I kept seeing photographers and friends posting their maternity & engagement shoots with that dress. You guys, I kid you not when I say I have seen no less than TEN different shoots with women in that dress.
If there’s one thing I hate, it’s being like everyone else. So when we walked into Belk, I was looking. And boom, there was this skirt with a crop top. Now . . . I do not wear crop tops, especially for photos. LUCKILY, this fabulous, full, crinoline-lined, colorful skirt is so high-waisted that it really isn’t revealing. As soon as I put it on, I felt like a million bucks. When Robert AND a sweet little lady in the dressing room approved, I headed for the check out. Plus, I think Robert’s eyes look incredible in green, so it was fate! 😉
These two are the most US photos ever. (above & below)
So there you have it! A few of our faves from our time with the incomparable Heather Chipps. Next I’ll have to blog photos of the Artifact Uprising album I designed because I’m really proud that I got done so fast. Let’s see if I can keep up that trend when it’s time to make our wedding album — that’s going to be a big one.
Heather, thank you for making me THAT MUCH MORE excited for our wedding! I couldn’t be happier with my choice of photographer. I knew you would make my Robert feel so comfortable, and I was right! He thinks you’re the coolest. 🙂 LOVE YOU!
