Jennifer & Andy’s Lord of the Rings Themed Wedding Photos

Oct 24

I LOVE a good theme wedding.  When I first met with Jenn & Andy one cold evening at Starbucks, they told me their wedding was inspired by Bilbo Baggins’s birthday party. Now I don’t know a whole lot about Lord of the Rings (though I do have a killer “my precious” impression), but I was HOOKED!  During our site visit a month before the wedding, I got to see the big gorgeous tree they would be married under and hear about all the plans for lighting and tenting.  I knew it would be a night we’d never forget.  😉

And I was right!  Jenn, Andy, their family, friends, AND friends went all out on the details to turn this private home site into a magical, magical forest.  See, when Andy went to meet the Lighting Professors to chat plans, they hit it off SO well that they offered him a job!  And now Jenn does set ups and break downs with the crew, too.  So of course, the lighting for this extravaganza was TOP notch.  🙂

But my favorite part was the ceremony that Andy & Jenn wrote themselves.  They paid homage to the friends who had become family AND included plenty of Tolkien and LOTR references.  It was truly incredible to get to be a part of this.  But I’ll stop TELLING you now so I can SHOW you.  😉

We started out the day in a lovely home where I got to shoot the coolest invitations ever.  Jenn also brought me the little treasure chest that Andy painstakingly handmade to propose to her.  He also handmade the little adventure book!!

Seriously with those eyes, Jenn!!

We found a gorgeous spot in the backyard for Jenn & Andy’s first look.

Then we headed to the ceremony and reception site to use this beautiful field for portraits.  I was in heaven!

I am OBSESSED with Jenn’s bridal portrait!

How cool is that the bridesmaids + one bridesman carried lanterns instead of the usual bouquets?

The traditional Bow Tied Weddings selfie with DJ Wes!

Flowers Make Scents ALWAYS blows me away!

The bridal party went into hiding while I got to shoot a handmade hobbit door!  Guys.  How cool is this??

Even though we had done a First Look and portraits, Andy was still pretty stoked to see Jenn walk down the aisle!

This is one of my favorite post-ceremony shots ever.

But THIS is my all-time favorite!!

This is Jenn leading Andy off an excellent adventure, of course.  😉

AND NOW for some of the AMAZING details that these two put together!  All the lanterns, guys.  All the lanterns!

I also had to get a shot of my BFF while he was food prepping!

I was pretty shocked when Jenn & Andy told me that bark layer was CAKE!  Incredible Edibles Bakery is actually incredible.

Andy’s mom and sister sang their first dance song, and it was BEAUTIFUL!!

When the sun went alllll the way down, we got to see the stunning lighting!

I mean, honestly.  This tent looks beyond incredible.

After dinner and cake, it was time to dance!!

Also fun to note: I got to see one my long-lost college roommates!! It turns out, my friend Sam from JMU recently married one of Andy’s former roommates!  When she said my name at the ceremony, I almost fell over.  SUCH a small world we live in, right?  That’s her and her hubby tearing up the dance floor in the bottom left.  Love you, Sam!!!! 🙂

And then just like that, it was time to go.  But not without putting this two under their entrance arch.

Jenn & Andy,

Thank you SO much for including me in this incredible day!!  I loved every minute of it!!  When you can make one day this special, I cannot wait to see what you do with the rest of your life together.  🙂

xoxo, Shalese

What a beautiful wedding with glorious pictures! I should have known who the cook would be. Best BBQ anywhere! Many wishes to the couple and their families.
