Meghan & Michael’s Waterfront Wedding in Topping, VA

Jun 20

YOU GUYS.  This wedding.  I’m going to be very honest, because Meghan & Michael already know this, and I think setting up this scene truly shows how beyond amazing they are.

I was almost two hours late for their wedding day.

Yes, it was my LITERAL worst wedding day nightmare come true.  Except for that one nightmare I had where I went to shoot a wedding and all of my gear was dripping wet inside my bag.

Long story short, there was an accident on the two lane bridge that separated me and house where the wedding was taking place and Meghan and all of her bridesmaids and details and flowers and . . . everything.  For two hours, I sat in my car . . . not moving.  I think I moved about 100 feet in those two hours.  I was calling Meghan with updates and ideas for how we could rearrange the timeline, and she was just AS HAPPY AS COULD BE.  Honestly, I was almost in tears, but Meghan just kept saying, “It’s ok.  I’m getting married today!”

So, we eventually made the call that I would just head Michael’s family river house on my side of the bridge and Meghan and her bridesmaids would come get dressed at the house as soon as possible.  We wanted to make sure Meghan got the photos of herself becoming a bride that she deserves!  As I walked into the house, I prepared to tell Michael the whole story and apologize profusely, but instead, I was greeted by the BIGGEST smile.  He said, “I know what’s going on, they told me, and it’s fine.  Everyone is stuck and it rained!  But we’re getting married today!”

When a torrential downpour forced their ceremony inside the tent and a bridge accident rearranged their entire timeline, Meghan and Michael never stopped smiling.  In fact, looking back, NO ONE did!  Both families and all the friends were just happy to be there to celebrate the new Fishers.  All that mattered was . . . they got married that day.  🙂  And it was beautiful.

While we waiting for the girls, we had some fun with groomsmen photos!

Meghan arrived with the biggest smile — this gorgeous girl just wanted to get in her dress & get married!!

The most gorgeous sisters you ever did see!  Pretty sure everyone thinks they’re triplets.

Even though we did these portraits in some rain, it was beautiful and so sweet to get the newlyweds alone for a bit!

While we waited for a break in the rain, Michael told Meghan where he was taking them for their honeymoon surprise: HAWAII!  He and her family had her believing they were going to a golf course somewhere.  Well done, fam, well done.  🙂

I got to be sneaky and shoot some of my favorite people during cocktail hour.  Recognize these guys?!

See what I mean??  Have you ever seen two people happier in the rain?  They’re just the best.

Believe it or not, we got a sunset!! So we snuck out for some final bride and groom portraits on the point.  With that terrible old bridge in the background hahaha

And then, one of the most fun receptions ever!

Meghan & Michael,

I cannot tell you guys enough how wonderful you made this day!  Your love for each other and for everyone around you reminds me why I love this “job.”  I’m so happy for you guys, and I hope you’re loving Hawaii!!

xoxo, Shalese

Thank you Shalese for helping to pull off what I thought was going to be an impossible task. Your photos truly show how the love that Meghan and Michael have for each other shined through an otherwise gloomy and stormy day.

You did an amazing job, especially when Mother Nature was trying to ruin everything. From looking at these photos, you cannot even tell how bad things were 2 1/2 hours before the ceremony started. We greatly appreciate your talent…..thank you for everything!!

Thank you so much, Mrs. Fisher! I can’t even tell you how much better you and your family made the entire situation! YOU guys are the reason I was able to shake off that first part of the day and do my job! 🙂 Thank you!!
