I was standing in the basement of Robert’s house when I got Shelby’s “I’M ENGAGED!!” email. I had to keep re-reading it to him because I kept stopping to squeal and say, “AWWWW oh my gahhhhhsh!!” I don’t think there is anything better than old friends trusting you to be their wedding photographer!
One line from her email always stuck out to me, and on her wedding day in Louisa VA, I kept thinking about it. She wrote, “You know the high school version of me quite well, and honestly, I haven’t changed much besides
I have found the man that I want to spend the rest of my life with, and he has asked me to be his wife . . .
and I of course said, ‘uh duh!’ I’ve been pretty much waiting since the day we met three years ago!”
That kind of absolute sureness always leaves a lasting impression on me. In high school, I had never known Shelby to be serious about a boy. She was always just free and fun and sure of herself. As her BFF Katelyn mentioned in her Maid of Honor speech, there was certainly no shortage of boys who wanted a chance!! But it turns out, Shelby was just waiting for the RIGHT boy, and that was Andrew.
So, in front old friends (those high school ones who know her quite well!) and new friends, Shelby & Andrew promised forever . . . through military deployments and moves, through thick and through thin.
But first, we had to turn Shelby into a BRIDE!
I am obsessed with her ring!!
Andrew gave Shelby this Tiffany & Co. ring on their six month anniversary. 🙂
Vera here was a champion of a flower girl!!
While the bridesmaids got dressed, I ran down to visit the guys in the man cave!
After delivering Shelby’s letter to Andrew, it was back upstairs to get her in her dress! Her nephews made her cry — they looked so grown! Wait ’til you see!
Shelby’s bridesmaid, Katelyn, is also Andrew’s sister! She introduced them, but unfortunately, she is currently deployed. But we did get her on FaceTime!!
It’s always fun to have the ceremony on a little island!
This is Emmett, and he was my best friend for the day! How stinking cute is he?!?!
I remember how excited Shelby was when she became an aunt, and now look at these two!!
Vera was SO excited to see the bride . . . and she wasn’t the only one. 🙂
Shelby’s bridesmaids were Katelyn, Katie, and Kristen. Whew. But I couldn’t forget Katelyn’s name because she’s KATELYN JAMES! 😉
They are such a photogenic couple!!
Andrew nails the model face every time!!
Our friend Miles joked that Shelby has been planning her wedding since high school . . . and she sure did a great job!! How cute are her centerpieces??
Emmett is a celebrity.
Cutting cake with a sword requires serious focus!
Shelby presented her mom with her bouquet to recognize all of her hard work in planning the wedding. MELT MY HEART, Shelbs.
While the girls were dancing, the boys were doing boy things!
And just like that, it was time for them to head to Richmond and catch an early flight to the Dominican Republic!!
Shelby & Andrew,
I can’t tell you guys how proud I was to photograph the first day of forever for you two. 🙂 THANK YOU for having me, and I know you’re having the best honeymoon ever!!
